Graduation Requirement Check

Welcome back senior students.  You have earned 135 or more credits, and as you plan for your graduation, take a moment to check your degree progress by logging onto your Student Center and running an "Academic Advisement Report."  You may also stop by to meet with a Porter College adviser for a no-surprise graduation requirements check.   You can schedule an appointment by calling the frontline assistant at (831) 459-2273.

SENIOR CHECKLIST

Three Quarters Before Graduation:

Check the “Academic Advisement Report” and Student Advising Summary” on you’re my.ucsc.edu portal to make sure that you will satisfy all of your graduation requirements (GEs, college, major, and university requirements) by your proposed graduation quarter.

Check to make sure that you will have the 180 credits required to graduate.

Check your degree audit (if available) in the “Academic Advisement Report,” or with your major adviser to make sure that you are on track to satisfy all your major/s and (if applicable), minor/s requirements.

If you have General Education Requirements (GEs) or other requirements to complete, map out a plan to complete them.

Look into taking the senior comprehensive requirement for your major (thesis, seminar, etc).

Go to the Career Center website for Student Services for advice and resources to research internships and jobs, graduate schools, and on what to do after graduating.

Attend one of the Career Center’s job and internship fairs.

Update or write your resume.  The Career Center sponsors informative workshops.

Begin research on graduate school and the GRE/MCAT, LSAT, etc., if you are planning to continue your education.  The Career Center’s Student Services “Graduate/Professional School” link is a great resource.  Also check out Take Action: Graduate and Professional School for graduate school preparation.

Last Quarter at UCSC:

Check and double-check that all GE, major, university, and college requirements have been satisfied. If you are unsure, meet with an adviser at the college office (email contact porteradviser@ucsc.edu) and with your major adviser.

Apply for graduation online through my.ucsc.edu by your graduation quarter’s deadline (refer to the Academic Calendar for dates). This process lets UCSC know that you are ready to graduate (do not assume that just because your proposed or expected graduation term is this quarter that UCSC will allow you to continue for the next quarter). Only apply for graduation during the quarter in which you plan to graduate and have completed all your degree requirements.

Periodically check your campus email for information that may pertain to your graduation or the college Commencement ceremony.

Sign up for the graduation Commencement ceremony online. If you would like to participate in another college’s ceremony, check for their requirements with the Programs Activities Coordinator at that college.

Begin to identify emails you wish to archive and forward to a personal email account.

Update your personal address to make sure your diploma is mailed to a valid permanent address.  Diplomas may take up to 3 to 4 months to arrive.
