It is important to plan your four years thoughtfully, seeking advise from your college and major advisers.  Some major (especially science or engineering majors) require that you begin with major preparatory classes in your first quarter of enrollment.

Be aware that some general education requirements will be completed by classes in your major; some may also have been satisfied by your AP scores. This means that focusing only on GEs your first year may not be the best strategy -- doing so without considering your major could put you behind schedule.

For more detailed information on UCSC's full Degree Requirements, please refer to the New Student Advising Guide and The Navigator (which is UCSC's official Academic guidebook). For AP/IB credits, course equivalencies, and GE equivalencies refer to APPLYING AP AND IBH CREDIT TO GE AND MAJOR REQUIREMENTS.
