Facilities Event Guidelines


Porter College facilities are not generally open to use by the public. Venue rental and labor fees may apply. Please contact the Activities Office, 459-2857, to discuss details of your program. With the exception of Room C-118 and rooms in D-building, summer scheduling and supervision of these facilities is done by UCSC Conference and Summer Housing, 459-2611. During the academic year, reservations can be made within a year in advance.

George P. Hitchcock Lounge Hours and Guidelines

LOCATION: C Building

FACILITY: Multi-purpose lounges with carpet, tables, and comfortable couches. Additional chairs and tables and AV support can be provided.

USE: General recreation, meetings, Residential Life programs.

SCHEDULING:  May be reserved by any campus group/office for up to four hours. Only Porter Staff may reserve for private meetings or for programs no longer than 4 hours. Meetings and activities must have a 20 person minimum projected attendance.

RESERVATIONS: Contact James Blaine or the ACPC, Porter College Activities, 459-2857.

Fees:  $50.00 use fee / use

KEYS: No need to obtain keys for this area; open according to schedule below.

Dining Hall Foyer Hours and Guidelines

FACILITY: Multi-purpose open space with carpet and comfortable couches, offers upright piano, space for tabling, awareness bulletin boards and trophy cases, access to C-building bathrooms, entrance to Hungry Slug and the Dining Hall. 

USE: General lounging, studying, awareness displays, or tabling for events. Not appropriate for meetings or classes.

SCHEDULING: Cannot be reserved: high traffic open space. When Dining Hall is reserved, this area automatically comes with it.

RESERVATIONS: For tabling and displays, contact James Blaine or the ACPC, Porter College Activities Office, 459-2857. 

KEYS: No need to obtain keys for this area; open according to schedule below.

OPENS: 7:00 AM weekdays (opened by Dining Hall Staff)

CLOSES: 1:00 AM daily (locked by CSOs)

WEEKEND: Facility is closed on weekends.

MAINTAIN: Custodial Services provides routine cleaning and Student Activities office administers equipment. Groups or students using the space must clean up after themselves and leave the space (including furniture) in the same manner in which it was found.

C-118 Hours and Guidelines

FACILITY: Multi-purpose classroom with carpet and desk/chair combinations, can be set with a few tables.

USE: General meetings, CORE course sections, educational programs.

SCHEDULING: May be reserved by any campus group for private meetings or up to 4 hours per day and 4 days per week, at any time.

RESERVATIONS: Contact James Blaine or the ACPC, Porter College Activities Office, 459-2857. 

KEYS: To checkout keys for this area, contact Porter Activities the business day prior to the event, during regular business hours. Keys must be returned by 12:00 Noon of the following business day.

Fees:  $50.00 / use

CLOSES: Key access

Study Center Hours and Guidelines

LOCATION: D Building

FACILITY:Study lounges with carpet, comfortable couches, group tables with chairs, and private desks. Can be set with additional chairs.

USE: Study only, and occasional trainings / meetings when classes are not in session. Seminar room may be used for small meetings, instruction and study groups.

SCHEDULING: Cannot be reserved during the year when classes are in session. During summer and break periods, Porter College Staff may reserve the space without limitation. Seminar room use is by reservation only. See below.

RESERVATIONS: Contact James Blaine or the ACPC, Porter College Activities Office, 459-2857. 

KEYS: Study Center is open according to the schedule below.  Contact the Porter Activities Office for reservations. Seminar room is not currently available for scheduling.

J. B. Hall Gallery and Bridge Gallery Hours and Guidelines

LOCATION: C Building

FACILITY: Art galleries with carpet and track lighting, can be set with chairs and tables, offers extra tables and pedestals for artwork upon request. Bridge Gallery also offers balcony views to the Dining Hall, and offers access to Dining Hall Stage Technician Booth.

USE: Art exhibits, receptions, meetings, CORE course sections, technical uses, stage balcony.

SCHEDULING:  NOTE: The JB Hall Gallery will be unavailable for reservation until further notice.

Exhibition periods are defined as mid winter quarter until the end of spring quarter. Sorry, no reservations for fall quarter. 

During exhibit periods (when an artist has work on display), reservations can be made only by Porter College staff for private meetings and events. During non-exhibit periods, Porter College students may hold events / meetings which are open to the public; and staff may hold either public or private meetings / events. Event duration may not exceed 4 hours, unless the event is an exhibit. Exhibits provisions are to be negotiated with the College Programs Coordinator. 

RESERVATIONS: Contact James Blaine or Porter College Activities Office, 459-2857. 

KEYS: To obtain keys for this area, contact James Blaine or the ACPC on the business day prior to the event, weekdays between 12:00 Noon and 5:00 PM. Keys must be returned by the end of the following business day.

Fees:  $50.00 / day

Porter / Kresge Dining Hall Guidelines

LOCATION: D Building

FACILITY: Multi-use facility:  Dining Hall & Performacne stage

USE:

  • Unviersity Dining services daily, Sun. - Thrus. 7:00 am - 11:pm, Fri. & Sat 7am - 7:00 pm
  • Program use:  Live theatrical / music / cultural events, movie screenings etc.
  • Stage if 24" x 48", includes house lighting & sound packages
  • Program use generally requires Porter Activities Tech Staff.

SCHEDULING:  Available for Programing 8:30pm - 11:30pm Friday & Saturday

RESERVATIONS: Contact James Blaine or Porter College Activities Office, 459-2857. 

Fees:  $150.00 / day (Student Organization) $350 / day other orgs. Plus staff as needed

KEYS: NA

Porter Quad Guidelines

LOCATION: Between Porter "A" & "B" Residence halls

FACILITY: Open Quad

USE:  Generally reserved for College activitied & funcations and College sponsored Programs

SCHEDULING:  Quiet hours observed througth out the Quarter

RESERVATIONS: Contact James Blaine or Porter College Activities Office, 459-2857. 

Fees:  NA

KEYS: NA

MAINTAIN: Student Activities staff; Groups reserving the space must clean up after themselves and leave the space (including furniture) in the same manner in which it was found.

  

 

Porter Lower Quad Guidelines

LOCATION: Infront of Porter "A" & "B" Residence halls

FACILITY: Open Quad - includes designate Free Speech are for Porter College

USE:  Generally reserved for College activitied & funcations and College sponsored Programs.

The Free Speech area is defined by the hardscape between the Porter "C" and Porter "D" building and does not include the main quad between Porter "A" & "B" residence halls.  Free Speech activitie must a 10 foot distance from buiding entances, stairs & ramps.
