Academic and Enrollment Resources
Before enrollment, please review these On-line Academic and Enrollment resources:
NEW STUDENT COLLEGE ADVISING GUIDE:
This guide is designed to help you understand academic advising at UCSC, become familiar with UCSC degree requirements as well as campus resources, and basic course planning and enrollment. The checklist at the end of the guide is especially helpful in preparing and organizing your first quarter at UCSC. We recommend you print it out and post it!
THE FALL SCHEDULE OF CLASSES:
In addition to the courses available for Fall, the Schedule of Classes homepage contains instructions on enrollment, the placement exam schedule, an academic calendar and an enrollment appointment schedule. Other useful information is included, so be sure to read it carefully.
HOW TO ENROLL INTO PORTER CORE CLASS: (interactive website)
This website walks you through for the selection of your core class based upon completion or not of the Entry Level Writing Requirement. The website is interactive allowing you to make choices based upon your Analytical Writing Placement Exam score or AP or IBH credits or UC transferable college credits for a Composition class. If you did not take the Analytical Writing Placement Exam in May, the website will provide you with instructions on what to do about the core class placement. (Your core course enrollment is based on your records on file at the Admissions Office. Be sure to have all your documentation submitted to the Admissions Office by the July 15 deadline.)
NEW STUDENT MAJOR ADVISING SUMMARIES:
These summaries will be your essential tool for choosing courses for your proposed major*, learning whether an early start is important, viewing first-year plans, and other important major information.
*While a “proposed major” is not an officially declared major, it does allow the department to know of your interest in their program. As a freshman you are expected to confirm your proposed major or propose a major by end of your first year of enrollment at UCSC.
EARLY ACADEMIC ADVISING CLUSTER:
These clusters allow students not yet focused on a specific major to explore and prepare for UCSC majors in an intentional way, by completing necessary placement and first year courses that will assist them in choosing and qualifying for a major.
APPLYING AP AND IBH CREDIT TO GE AND MAJOR REQUIREMENTS
This guide will provide you with information about how to apply your AP and/or IBH credit as prerequisits for classes and provide you with information about UCSC course equivalencies.
Need to contact your proposed major adviser? Use the A-Z Index to quickly search for the major department, and look for the "ndergraduate" link to lead you to advising resources for that major.
In addition to reviewing these on-line resources, you should:
Activate your UCSC email account through the student portal. Checking your UCSC account is very important; you are responsible for responding to all communications sent to you by the university through your campus email account.
Check the “To Do” list in your portal for important information and any records required.
Submit your Academic Advising Questionnaire via: US mail to UCSC, Porter College, 1156 High Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95064 or by fax at (831)-459-2569 or by email to porteradviser@ucsc.edu The Academic Advising Questionnaire will let us know about your academic goals and interests.
