Review competencies expected of first year students:

  • Participation in the First Year Advising Program encompasses several steps. The first was already taken when you attended Summer or Fall Orientation. By completing this Tutorial, you are taking another step to guide your first-year experience. You can also participate by attending periodic advising workshops at Porter College on topics such as choosing classes and researching majors, evening advising workshops for class selection, and enrollment tutorials. You will be advised about upcoming advising workshops throughout the academic year via your campus email and Porter's Advising Facebook page.
  • A very important goal of the program is to confirm or choose a proposed major by the end of your first year. If you have already chosen and proposed a major, you can meet with an academic adviser to map out how to qualify for the major. Consult the General Catalog or major department's website for major requirements.
