Step Seven of the FYA Program
Review
Here are some important items for review prior to completing the final step for the First Year Advising Program:
Do you know where to find enrollment deadlines?
- Where to find your winter and spring quarter enrollment appointment times?
- Where to find the ADD/DROP/SWAP deadlines for fall, winter, and spring quarters?
- How to change grade options for courses and deadline?
- Utilize the Academic Calendar to find enrollment deadline dates! For enrollment questions, refer to the Office of the Registrar's Enrollment FAQs.
- You can also meet with your college adviser.
Can you answer the following questions?
- Where to find placement exam information for winter and spring quarters? Refer to the Placement Exams.
- Do you understand the Writing/Composition Requirements and the time to completion? Refer to the Writing Program.
- You must complete the Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR) by the end of your 4th quarter of enrollment.
- You must complete the C2 Writing Requirement by the end of your 6th quarter of enrollment.
Do you know where to find information about your General Education Requirements?
- log onto your Student Center and run your "Academic Advisement Report."
Do you know where to find the your graduation requirements?
- log onto your Student Center and run your "Academic Advisement Report."
Do you need help preparing to meet with your college academic adviser?
Follow the steps to PREPARE* to meet with a college adviser, and complete the required Class Assessment Activity and bring to your advising appointment:
- PREVIEW your general education requirements and proposed major requirements
- REVIEW your degree progress report and Bachelor's Degree Requirements
- EXPLORE the Class Search function and add classes to your shopping cart
- PLAN and bring a list of 4 to 6 possible classes
- ARRANGE a schedule of classes considering your responsibilities and other commitments
- REMEMBER to check for class prerequisites and restrictions
- EVALUATE your plan with your adviser/s

- UCDC Program for internship opportunities in Washington D.C.
- UC Center in Sacramento Program (UCCS)
- Intercampus Exchage Program - spend a quarter at another UC campus
- Domestic Exchante Program - spend a semester or year at the UCSC/University of New Hampshire (UNH) or UCSC/University of New Mexico (UNM).
- Semester at Sea.
- Porter's Undergraduate Fellowships & Awards for funding for expenses associated with original research, scholarly work, and/or artistic projects.
